The Strijp S area used to be production grounds of electronics manufacturer Philips. Since the company left in 2002, it has turned into the creative heart of Eindhoven: a new city district with a mix of converted post-industrial buildings, full of creative companies.
Strijp started out as a village on the outskirts of Eindhoven. In 1918, electronics manufacturer Philips acquired a site here and named it Strijp S. Three radio factories sprang up, accompanied by a power plant on neighbouring site Strijp T and followed in the 1950s by a television factory at Strijp R.
After the production stopped, Strijp S was redeveloped into a lively new creative quarter, which is the homebase of the annual Dutch Design Week.
On this tour you’ll experience the most dynamic new area of Eindhoven. We’ll visit a neighbourhood with rough old factory buildings mixed with conversions and new-builds by well-known architecture firms.
