Eind­hoven is one of the Neth­er­lands’ best-kept secrets. The city evolved from a mod­est pro­vin­cial town into a major indus­tri­al city in the 20th cen­tury, driv­en by Philips, which trans­formed it into a hub of engin­eer­ing and man­u­fac­tur­ing. The city­scape reflects this his­tory: early indus­tri­al her­it­age sits along­side large-scale urb­an renew­al pro­jects. Today, the city is known as Brain­port and is home to the Design Academy and the annu­al Dutch Design Week.
